Elizabeth WIllie Langford

February 23, 1923 ~ May 16, 2016 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Elizabeth WIllie Langford, 93, of Fayetteville, NC., passed away Monday, May 16, 2016.

Mrs. Elizabeth Moody Langford entered into life on February 28, 1924 in Valentines, Virginia to the late Atlas Green Moody and Della Lou (Johnson) Moody.  She returned to her Heavenly Father May 16, 2016 in her daughter’s home in Fayetteville, North Carolina.  She was the third child of seven children, five which preceded her in death (Wilbur, Millard, Curtis, Annie Florence, and Sidney).  Having lost her parents at an early age, Elizabeth and her siblings where reared by their paternal grandparents Stephen and Willie Rook-Moody and her Aunt Mary Moody Brewer.

At an early age, Elizabeth accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at Gaston Missionary Baptist Church.  She received her education in Gaston and Garysburg, NC; and after graduating from high school, she moved to Atlantic City, New Jersey to live with her late Aunt Nettie D. Moody Langford.  There she met and married George Washington Langford, who preceded her in death.  Early in their marriage, they moved to Chicago, Illinois.  There, she worked for the candy company Bit-O-Honey.  Together, they moved to NYC, where they made their home (Bronx).  She had various jobs that include working for a pocketbook manufacturer and being a personal assistant.  She was also co-owner with her husband of G. Langford Express Moving Co.  During her spare time, she loved cooking her sweet potato pies for St. Paul Baptist Church (NYC, NY), of which she and her husband were members.

To their union, two children were born: a loving son, George Tremayne Langford, who preceded her in death, and a loving, devoted daughter, Bernadette Virginia Langford Freeman.  Later in life, Elizabeth moved to Fayetteville, NC to live with Bernadette and her husband, Berkeley Freeman.  Together, they loved and devoted their time to caring for her.  She enjoyed 11 beautiful years in NC with her family.

She leaves to cherish her memory: a loving sister, Virginia Holoman of Brooklyn, NY; a devoted daughter, Bernadette Freeman (Berkeley); 5 grandchildren, Veda Simmons (Melvin; Melvin Jr. & Keiandra), Antoine Freeman (DeDreana; Antoine Jr., Ansel, & Adriana), Natasha Pitter (Andre; Jaiquan, Jewel, Cameron, & Andre Jr.), Dr. S. Janine Parker, and Tremayne Langford (Nadia); and other nieces, nephews, greats, other family, and friends. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
