Gerald Thomas Akers

Retired SP6 of the 82nd Airborne Division, Gerald Thomas Akers, of Fayetteville, and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 1016, at the age of 84.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Eula Akers of the home; sons, David and wife Angela of Fayetteville, Kenneth Akers and Keith Akers, of the home; daughter Kathy Allende and husband Rico of Hope Mills; sister Geneva Hoskins of Canton, Ohio; grandchildren Danielle Ohren of California, Denise Jones of Hope Mills and Brandon Meza of Hope Mills; five great grandchildren; three step grandchildren; six great stepchildren and several nieces and nephews. 

Mr. Akers served his country for twenty-one years and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

At the request of Mr. Akers there will not be any services but a gathering will be held at his home, Friday, September 23, 2016 throughout the day.
