Anita Johnson

Anita Elena Johnson, age 91 of Brooklyn NY, passed away on Saturday April 28, 2018.  She was born to the late Neil Gibson and Florence Bessie Gibson Brown on January 9, 1927. 

She attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in NY, where she obtained a degree in fashion design.  She also graduated from CCNY where she obtained a Master’s in Education.  That was not her last stop education wise.  She also obtained a Masters in Supervisory Administration from Brooklyn College.  As a member of Phi Delta Kappa Anita was a very well educated woman.  She taught at Clara Barton HS in Brooklyn NY for a period of years.  She later became assistant principal at Jackie Robinson Intermediate School also in Brooklyn.  She remained there several years and later became principal at PS 191 in Brooklyn of course.  Anita remained there until she retired in 1994.  Upon retirement she relocated to Fayetteville, NC to be with her children.

Anita was married to the late Robert Johnson of Brooklyn NY.  Together they had two lovely children the late Robert Jr. and Sandra.  Anita had a passion for sewing.  If you knew her you knew she made all of her own clothes.  She had so many clothes she could go months without wearing the same thing twice.  Anita along with her elder sister Edith hosted a number of fashion shows.  The fashion world was something that was a huge interest to her and helped both her early and later years.

Skiing and traveling were also hobbies of hers.  Anita traveled the world wide but her favorite continent for travel was Africa.  She enjoyed going on safari and exploring the vast countryside.  Anita was a long standing member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church Brooklyn NY. 

Anyone who knew Anita knew that according to her she was always right.  She loved a good argument and to the chagrin of many she never backed down.  That showed her strong will and determination that was her building blocks of life.  She was persistent and always persevered in all her endeavors. 

Anita leaves to cherish her memory her sister;  Dolores Syphax, of Brooklyn NY,  daughter Sandra Teagle of Fayetteville  NC, grandsons Robert Johnson lll, Jermery Johnson, Eduardo Teagle Lil, Brandon Teagle, 3 great grandsons, nieces , nephews, and a host of friends.
