Herbert Victor "Pop Pop" Waake, 78, of Henderson, NC, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2019 after a long battle with lung disease. Born in Jersey City, NJ, on November 22, 1941, he spent the majority of his life living in Manalapan, Jackson, and Howell, NJ. In 2009 he moved to Henderson, NC.
Herb was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps and spent most of his life as an owner/operator truck driver.
He was predeceased by his son, Edward Waake, in 2009. He leaves behind the love of his life and his wife of 59 years, Satu (nee Brannlund); daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Ronnie Schlechtweg; son, Peter Waake; son, Christopher Waake; daughter and son-ion-law, Ellen and Gregory Hayes. He was a doting and loving Pop-Pop to seven grandchildren: Kristin, Casey, Jillian, Kelly, Kyle, Amber, and Richard; and his five great-grandchildren: Hannah, Hailey, Avah, Alyssa, and Arianna as well as a host of lifelong, broken-hearted friends.
Services will he held at The Old Tennent Cemetery in Manalapan, NJ at a later date to be determined by the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to The American Lung Association.
