Carl Edward Whitted was born on September 3, 1939, in Bladen County at home in the community known as Turnbull to the late Jonathan Idell Whitted, and the late Beulah Mae Dunham-Johnson. He was educated in the Bladen County School System.
Carl was a Volunteer Fireman for the Ammon Fire Department, Ruritan Club Member, Ammon Blue Berry Festival Chair-Person, Turnbull Hunting Club, Sunday School Teacher and Class Leader. A Farmer at heart, and a lover of outdoors. Carl loved fishing, hunting, farming and utilizing his hands for mechanical and farming.
Carl worked for many years for Modern Moving Storage, before accepting a position with Rohm-Hass, and in later years the Monsanto Company where he held various positions before retiring. No matter his employment farming was always at the top of his list.
Carl was united in holy matrimony to the former Jossie Patricia Melvin this union brought forth his legacy. Carl Edward, Norman Antonio, Anthony Fitzgerald, Edith Darlene, and Tonya Danielle.
Carl was a long-time member of Dove Chapel AME Zion Church where his family played in important role in the founding and building of Dove Chapel. In later years he united with Windsor United Methodist Church, now (Windsor Church of God) where he continued his growth in his faith. He found peace and joy being a part of his extended family at Windsor United Methodist, with whom he would often refer to as his brothers and sisters.
On, Saturday, September 23, 2023, Carl was summoned by the Angels to unite with his creator. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jonathan Idell Whitted, and Beulah Mae Dunham-Johnson; daughter Edith Darlene Whitted-King; granddaughter Alexis Charmaine Whitted; grandson Bryant Thomas King; sisters, Dorothea Johnson and Gloria Jean Smith; brothers; Michael hair and Berdell Hair; stepfather Joseph Johnson; fraternal grandparents Bertie Whitted, and Elizabeth Burns; maternal grandparents, Jessie James Dunham and Nellie Carver.
Carl is survived by three sons; Carl Edward Melvin (Twana), Norman Antonio Whitted, and Anthony Fitzgerald Whitted (Irish); two daughters; Tonya Danielle Whitted- Hammonds (John), and Sharon Morrisey; six brothers; Ambrose Johnson, Richard Johnson. Marvin Johnson, Christopher Johnson, Wendall Hair, and Jonathan Hair; ten sisters; Mae D. Melvin, Juanita Philyaw, Joyce Williams (David), Nancy Johnson, Shelia Mack, Tracy Scott (Winston), Lottie Carr (George), Jackie Douglas, Mary Whitted and Irish Hair. One special granddaughter he raised, Gabrielle S. Whitted. 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren. His life legacy and memories will be forever treasured by his nephews, nieces, cousins, and life time friends.
