Obituary

Darvin Keith Jones, Sr., 62, transitioned peacefully April 13, 2022, surrounded by loved ones at Cape Fear Valley Hospital, where he dedicated his life’s work, in Fayetteville, NC.

He was born August 5, 1959, in Wilmington, NC, to Dorothy Eloise Jones and John Boyd, Sr.

Darvin grew up in Bronx, NY, where he graduated high school. He returned to North Carolina to attend college at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Darvin began his career as a television photojournalist at WWAY in Wilmington before graduating college. He quickly became well-known for his talent, passion, and dedication to his craft. He moved to Fayetteville in the late 80s to advance his career at WTVD and WRAL, earning awards before retiring from television news in the early 90s.

After leaving news, Darvin began his decades-long journey at Cape Fear Valley Health System, which started with video projects and commercials. His focus then turned to community health outreach and his legacy Take Charge of Your Health initiative. Darvin worked tirelessly to bring health fairs to low-income areas. He connected doctors with the community, producing Making Rounds Live to open dialogue about healthcare. He had a seat on several boards in Fayetteville, including Fayetteville Urban Ministry.
