Donald N. Halpin, Sr, 86, formerly of Broadalbin, passed away Saturday August 7, 2021, in Fayetteville, NC.
He was born at home on December 17, 1934, a son of Kenneth and Isabel Mustar Halpin in Little Neck, NY during a hurricane and was a 1952 graduate of Bayside High School. Don moved to Broadalbin in 1972 where he lived until moving to Fayetteville nine months ago.
Mr. Halpin was employed as an offset printer for thirty-five years. He worked at Noteworthy Company in Amsterdam for ten years. Later, Don was self-employed as a residential painter.
He was an avid gardener and loved the outdoors. Don also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He was married to his neighbor and high school sweetheart, Margaret Nugent Halpin on October 7, 1955. Sadly, she died May 4, 2017. In addition to his wife and parents, Don was predeceased by a son, Timothy, who died in 1975, and his beloved dog, Dolly, who died at age 25 the night Don was hospitalized.
Survivors include four children, Donald (Lauri) Halpin, Jr. of Loudon, TN, Linda Castro of Amsterdam, Doreen Halpin of Fayetteville, NC, and William Halpin of Gloversville; a brother, Phillip Halpin of Clearwater, FL; five grandchildren, Daniel Castro, Molly Halpin, Michelle and Eric Insogna, and Amber Passino; two great-grandchildren, Connor Insogna and Fiona Spraker; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday August 21, 2021, from 10 – noon at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106, Johnstown, NY followed by a prayer service at noon with Rev. Jun Segura, officiating. Final burial will be in Broadalbin-Mayfield Rural Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Assoc., in care of the funeral home.
