Franklin Cabrera Salas, 77, of Lumber Bridge, NC, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2023.
Franklin was a natural fisherman and would take his family on adventures from the West & East Coast Shore lines to the Great Lakes. While on these escapades he would crash the boat and submerge the family car several times. He found the humor in any situation, and always had a story to tell.
Franklin shared a tight bond with his only son Frankie, who shared the same passion for hunting and gun collecting. Father & son hunted on Fort Bragg together over 35 years, they formed a lifelong friendship with fellow huntsman, deeming their bond of Brotherhood "The Guamamian Mafia". They would say you had to be "special" to be a member.
Frank was very competitive and won many pool and bowling tournaments. He also was an excellent poker player.
Frank possessed the ability to play instruments by ear, his favorite being guitar, piano and harmonica. He loved to entertain and was the party! His motto "EAT DRINK AND BE MERRY!"
Franklin loved mechanics teaching his son all he knew, even making his daughter learn to change brake pads, tires and bleed brakes. He loved spending time with his family. His grandchildren adored his easy charisma and his hilarious sense of humor and consider him the G.O.A.T.
Franklin believed in living in the moment. He would tell us to Remember the good times. And there was so many. He really left an imprint on our hearts and will forever be cherished as a dedicated soldier. Loving husband, attentive father beloved brother and dear friend.
Franklin joined the Army in 1965 at the age of 18 years old. He served several tours in Vietnam and Korea. He retired as 1st Sergent in 1985 after 20 years of service. He learned 8 different languages.
On April 2, 1970, he married the love of his life Louise Salas.
