Luby Dean Morgan, age 62, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 23rd, 2025, at the SECU Hospice House of UNC Johnston Health in Smithfield. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, from pancreatic cancer.
Born in Harnett County on October 8, 1962, Luby was the beloved son of Leroy Morgan and the late Shelby Jean Allen Morgan. He grew up in Clayton, NC, and attended Clayton High School. A dedicated and hard-working man, Luby built an impactful business as the owner of L.D. Morgan Plumbing Inc., proudly serving his community for many years with integrity and quality workmanship.
Luby was married to his high school sweetheart, Emily Langston Morgan, for nearly 43 years—a love story built on faith & devotion. Together they raised three children and built a life rooted in family. One of Luby’s greatest joys in life was the deep pride he carried for his family.
Whether he was fishing at the beach, tinkering in his shop, watching races, or simply enjoying the moment, Luby’s presence brought warmth, laughter, and strength to those who knew him. He had a protective spirit, a servant’s heart, and a knack for fixing just about anything.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife Emily Langston Morgan, his daughter Erica Morgan Cook (Bernard), his son Lance Dean Morgan, his daughter Arianna Morgan Thompson (Brandon), and his beloved grandchildren, Jeremiah Joseph and Ethan Morgan Cook. He is also survived by his siblings: Van Morgan (Joy), Gail Morgan, Carol Wilson (Rickey), and Sheila Fasolt (Tim), along with many cherished nieces and nephews.
Luby’s life was a testament to faith, hard work, and unconditional love. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life with food and fellowship to honor Luby in the way he loved most. The gathering will take place on Saturday, May 31st, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Pomona-Creech Community Center, 3929 Brogden Rd, Smithfield, NC 27577. Casual attire is welcome as we come together to laugh, remember, and celebrate the life of a man who meant so much to so many.
The family extends their gratitude to the staff of the SECU Hospice House of UNC Johnston Health for the exceptional care and compassion provided to Luby and his loved ones during his final days. To honor his life and the care he received, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Luby’s memory to the SECU Hospice House of UNC Johnston Health, Smithfield, NC.
