Roberta A Foster

 Roberta Ann Foster was born to Walter and Helen DeMinds on November 2, 1932 in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the 3rd child of 12 siblings. Roberta had four children, Sheila Rosetta McRae, who preceded her in heaven, David Lamont Riddick, Charles Walter Riddick Jr and Colleen Collette Pegram-Wike. She worked hard building her career from changing bedpans to administrator of a hospital ward at Menorah hospital where she retired from in 1996. She earned numerous nurses certification and a BS degree in Nursing from Long Island University and a certification for physician assistant of surgery.  Roberta’s determination and work ethics set a standard for her family and she was greatly respected by all.

Roberta was an avid reader and smart, always answering the jeopardy questions right. She was an active member of New Hope Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York for many years where she served on the Floral club and taught Sunday School until she relocated to Charlotte and Hope Mills, NC with her daughter Colleen. She joined Shiloh United Church of Christ in Fayetteville, NC.

We laugh and joke about all of her names but they were just pieces of the woman she was. The matriarch of our family she was exactly who you needed her to be when you needed her to be it. Lady Romance, Bubbles, Sista Foster, Granny, or our Golden Girl. She formed bonds with everyone that was blessed to be in her presence, but don’t get her “twisted” she could curse you out and say a prayer for you in the same breath.  Roberta lived life to the fullest and never let anyone forget that “this is the blessing known as retirement”. She traveled abroad to Italy in 1997, sailed on a cruise ship, traveled the southeastern landscape sometimes by car or train or a motorcycle. She danced until her feet hurt and laughed until tears formed in both her eyes and the eyes of her friends and family. I know Roberta is up in Heaven with her Love(Sheila), brother/twin Walter “Uncle Brother”, Roland, Randolph, Joe, her sisters, Edith, Beanie, Doll, Carrie, Ruth and son in law Light Bright Ronnie Wike cracking jokes, laughing, and playing cards. Her earthly presence will be forever missed, but we know she’s in a much better place.
