Virginia Goff Obituary

Virginia “Jenny-Row” Goff was born on December 8, 1940 in Hogansville, Georgia to the late Deacon Willie G. Martin and Deaconess Sever D. Banks Martin. At an early age, she accepted CHRIST as her personal SAVIOR and was baptized at the Greater Zion Baptist Church in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Virginia attended bible school during the summer and winter seasons at the Masa Home in Harrisburg. While in high school, she participated in track & field and basketball teams. Virginia graduated from John Harris High School in Harrisburg. Jenny was a member of the Foster Street YMCA Girls’ Basketball team and they competed in other states. She attended Union County College in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

In 1967, Jenny moved to New Jersey and was joined in holy matrimony with Oscar Goff Sr., better known as “Buddy-Row,” for over 32 years until the Lord call him home.

Jenny was employed by Bristol-Meyers Squibb and Proctor & Gamble in Princeton, New Jersey, retiring after 25 years of service.

Sister Goff was a member of International Free & Accepted Modern Masons Inc., the Order of Eastern Star, hailing from Bethune Grand Chapter, member of Rose of Sharon Chapter 157 in Newark, New Jersey for over 54 years, elevated to the highest degree of the Rose Auxiliary.

She loved traveling, fishing, and weekend stays at the casino. In her leisure time, she enjoyed spending time with her family at birthday parties, cooking for her friends and anyone in the neighborhood who showed up at her house. They all called her “Momma Jenny.” She loved traveling to Massachusetts, Maryland and Pennsylvania to go fishing with her sisters and family. When anyone in the family had gotten sick, she would jump in her vehicle and travel the roads to take care of them.

On Friday, July 10, 2020, Virginia, formerly of Linden, New Jersey, took her flight to Glory to be with her LORD and SAVIOR at the Village Green Rehabilitation Center in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Goff, Sr.; son, Anthony J. Goff; grandson, Sa'Quan Hurling; great-grandson, Ja’Quan Darion Long; great-granddaughter, Layla Holmes; and sisters: Jessie Branch and Mary Braxton.

Virginia leaves to cherish her memories: her children: Cassandra Martin of MD, Angela Martin of Fayetteville, NC, Toni Martin of MD, Willette J. Martin of Willingboro NJ, Jeanie Martin of Scranton, PA, Charles B. Wilson (Sharonda) of NC, Della Hurling (Gregory) of Linden, NJ, Oscar Goff II (Lawanna) of Linden, NJ, Ronald Taylor of NY, Diane Holden (Anthony) of Willingboro, NJ and Bobby Pickett (Charlene) of VA; two sisters: Doris Preston (Lamont) of MD, Pearl Chapman (Eugene) of NY; aunt, Juanita Daniel (Martin); 49 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, dear relatives and friends who praise her very much.
