William Earl McLamb, Sr. peacefully passed away, on Thursday, December 26, 2024. In his last
days on earth, surrounded by his family, he shared he had received salvation and was ready to
be whole again in heaven. On earth he was a man known by many names: William, Dad, Papa,
Pop, Uncle Hank, W.E., Merle just to name a few. He was a kind soul and an avid outdoorsman
and hunter.
W.E. was born August 25, 1942, to the late Willis Talton “Son” and Maebelle Wilkins McLamb.
He grew up in the Mary Stewart Community, before settling just outside of Benson with his
bride, Mary Pope McLamb. William was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and five
siblings: W.T. McLamb, Margie Waddell, Edna Black, Hilda Sorrells, and Clara Norris.
Left to cherish his memory and live out his legacy are his two sons: William McLamb Jr. “Pete”
and fiance Aileen of Benson and Chris McLamb of Grifton; three grandchildren: William
McLamb III “Trey” and wife Jillian, Lydia McLamb, and Aaron McLamb; two great-grandchildren:
Lizzy Gray and William Wade; two siblings: brother, James McLamb and wife Peggy, and sister,
Linda Chance and husband Edward, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews, including
Anthony Pruett.
The family will be honoring W.E.’s wishes and there will be no service. Donations in his memory
are appreciated and can be made in memory of “William E. McLamb” to The National Wild
Turkey Federation at nwtf.org.
