I will miss my grandfather dearly, not just for the man he was but for the man he helped me grow up to be. He taught me how to hunt and only take what you need, he also taught me how to fish, only use a ZEBCO only if your a true fishermen and what to use to catch the right fish. I love you Basil and you will always be in my heart, plz say Hi to Mama, mom, Dad and Caroline for me, til me meet again I LOVE YOU and you take care.

Basil was such a great man. My Boy Scout leader, hunting, fishing, bull frogging companion, pinochle partner and mentor. He was my second father. He had such a tremendous influence on my life.

Basil was a faithful member at the Southport church where I met him. He was such a loving and kind man. I remember one Christmas he gave all the ladies in the congregation some fold up scissors (I still carry mine in my purse) and the men pocket knives. He usually always had gum to share with the kids and adults too. He will be missed. Our prayers are with the family.

I wish words could take away your pain, but I know there are none that can. There is no band aide to fix your broken heart and it makes me feel helpless that I can't take away all your hurt. We attended with Basil at Southport and visited with him at his home in Boiling Springs. Malyssa always sought him out for a pack of gum on Sunday mornings. He will always have a place in our hearts. May God bless his friends and family.

Carla: Just found this notice tonight. Was thinking about my dad tonight and attempted to look up Basil. I am so sorry for your loss. Even though it's been a year, I know the pain is forever. I lost daddy 11 years ago and still feel the loss. They were great friends as children as well as related. I'm sure it was a wonderful reunion in heaven.

My wife and I hold worship services at Green Leaf each Sunday evening. I was just beginning to get to know your father when he had that fall. Prior to that he attended some services and we all appreciated his voice singing the hymns. He impressed me as a strong Christian man, and I'll miss him but trust he is in heaven.
